Long Term volunteers
To be a long term volunteer, you should be financially and mentally prepared to commit to a period of 1-2 years with the organisation. You must be mature, willing to work long hours, often with little free time or privacy, have an understanding and tolerance of different cultures, a sense of humour and be able to work well as part of a team.
Finally, you must be passionate about conservation, whilst understanding the difficult issues facing conservationists in developing countries.
CERCOPAN provides for room & board, and local travel needs for long term volunteers- for terms of one year or less, volunteers must provide their own air travel to and from Nigeria, all immigration costs, vaccinations and anti-malarials. All volunteers must buy their own medical insurance, which provides for emergency evacuation at a minimum. A local stipend is offered for a 2-year commitment.
Long-term positions are generally advertised, however on occasion we have created positions for volunteers with skills that are especially useful to us (e.g. veterinarians, fundraisers, communications professionals and people with excellent construction skills) so it is worth submitting a CV and cover letter if you feel you may fall into this category.
